Long Hill moves forward on Millington-era issues: appraisal for condemnation, park lighting award and RFP for train station sublease

At its May 27 meeting, the Township Committee authorized three actions affecting Millington-area assets: (1) the Township Attorney was authorized to retain a real- estate appraiser (not to exceed $3,500) to support condemnation proceedings for 1261 Valley Road (Block 10401, Lot 4, known as "Thermoplastics South"); (2) the committee approved a contract award under Sourcewell cooperative pricing to Musco Sports Lighting for purchase and installation of pickleball/playground and parking lighting at Meyersville Park, not to exceed $104,490; and (3) the township clerk was authorized to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to sublease and operate a restaurant/café at the Millington Train Station.
Condemnation appraisal: Resolution 26-149 authorizes the township attorney to retain a qualified appraiser to prepare valuation materials for the condemnation action, with a not-to-exceed fee of $3,500 charged to account 6-01-0020-00155-2-00201. The authorization follows an earlier motion to commence condemnation steps and to make a good-faith offer to the owner.
Park lighting award: As part of the consent agenda (Res. 26-153), the committee approved purchasing and installing sports/parking lighting through Sourcewell pricing with Musco Sports Lighting to illuminate a pickleball/play area and parking at Meyersville Park. The award includes the lighting system and installation and is charged to capital accounts noted in the minutes.
Millington Train Station RFP: Resolution 26-154 authorizes the clerk to issue an RFP for subleasing the Millington Train Station, with the stated goal of attracting an experienced operator to run a restaurant/café that complements the Planning Board’s vision for a walkable village center. The minutes state the township reserves the right to accept or reject proposals in its discretion.
Public interest: A public commenter questioned why the township is seeking bids for cell towers (related to Administrator Bahr’s earlier note that cell-tower bids open June 10). The committee took the appraisal and RFP steps as part of broader efforts to address underused Millington properties and to pursue financing and programming that support village-center revitalization.
