Council approves local historic listing and certifies 2026 election ballot

At the July 14 meeting the Orange City Council unanimously adopted two resolutions.
Resolution 439‑26: The council added 244 North Levitt Avenue (the Thompson Bungalow) to the City of Orange City’s local register of historic places. Development Services Director Joe Ruiz summarized archival documentation and a favorable recommendation from the Historic Preservation Board; the resolution authorizes placement of a historic marker (the property would be listed locally as site OC010) and notes the property’s Florida Master Site File listing added in May 2026.
Resolution 448‑26: City Clerk Kaylee Burleson presented a housekeeping resolution required by Section 4.04 of the city charter to give required notice to the supervisor of elections and to certify the form of the ballot for the 2026 general election. Burleson noted two unopposed district candidates (Fran Darmes, District 5; Anthony Papello, District 4) and two contested races in District 3 (Brett Marquez, Sherry Pugh) and in the at-large seat (Dana Knight, Steven Jensel Jr.). The council adopted the resolution to satisfy charter timing requirements.
Votes recorded at the meeting show unanimous approval for both resolutions.
