At the meeting, Susan Sheaffer, representing a delegation, announced that Braxton County Schools will host its fourth annual Community Connections event on Friday, Sept. 19, ahead of the Braxton Eagles football game.
The event runs from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. kickoff; setup for businesses and organizations begins at 4 p.m. and booths will include school teams, local clubs and businesses. The district will recognize third‑ through eighth‑grade students who met mastery or above on last year’s GSA test; those students will receive passes to attend the game and extra food and will run out on the field prior to kickoff.
Sheaffer encouraged local businesses, Rotary and other community groups to participate, noted last year’s event attracted many families and some visitors from opposing teams, and said the Communities in Schools site coordinators and central office staff will assist with setup. Flyers will be posted on the district website and submitted to the local newspaper; Sheaffer said people may call the board office with questions about setup.
