Board approves consent agenda, parent support organizations and schedules policy second reading

The Florence Unified School District governing board approved several routine items on its agenda and heard administrative reports and employee recognitions.

During opening business the board adopted the meeting agenda by voice vote after a motion was made and seconded; the transcript records the result as carried. The board then heard a report from board member Miss Quist, who encouraged teachers and families to 'choose one word' as a focus for the coming school year and thanked staff for preparation.

Superintendent Knudson reported staffing for the 26-27 school year, saying the district had one teacher opening and one psychologist opening and that administrators felt well positioned to start the year. Knudson also announced awards; Miss Henry introduced Shannon Weber, director of transportation, who recognized van driver Jennifer Garman for dependable service and positive interactions with students. Nick Trakis, director of technology, presented an award to an employee identified as Amado for his consistent support of the department.

The board announced its next regular meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, with a 5 p.m. work study and 6 p.m. regular meeting.
