Willow Park welcomes new businesses, recognizes staff and proposes park dedication

Willow Park — At its July 14 meeting the Willow Park City Council welcomed two newly opened businesses, recognized multiple staff certifications and discussed a proposal to dedicate a park in honor of longtime parks advocate Leah Young.

Nathan Vaughn, general manager of Vintage Floors and Finishes, described the company’s new showroom and its three retail locations. "So anything floors, anything showers, anything tile, we can take care of it from from one end to the other," Vaughn said while thanking the council for the welcome.

Representatives from Connect Le Green Wellness (identified in the meeting as Asia and Bridal) said the business opened its corner unit on South Branch and will offer classes, virtual and planned in‑person nutrition and wellness coaching. "Our main goal is just to connect people, help people pursue their health and wellness, and connect people to each other," one owner said.

City staff recognitions: The council and city manager acknowledged several employee accomplishments — Mandy McCarley earned a TxDOT local government project procedures qualification (enabling work on TxDOT grants and projects), Municipal Court Administrator Michelle Lowe completed level‑3 court clerk certification, and Fire Marshal Charlie Schneider passed a TDLR certification after attending a TEEX code‑enforcement class. Staff also announced that Willow Park is now a Film Friendly Texas certified community and recognized Rosalie Hoffman for her work in that effort.

Park dedication discussion: During item 5, a speaker identified by voice as Scott Smith recommended naming a future park for Leah Young in recognition of her 28 years of service on the parks board and city council. Council members treated the item as discussion and awareness; no vote or dedication action was taken at the meeting.

Adjournment: The council later moved to adjourn and closed the meeting after a brief additional agenda and comment items.
