Saint Mary's College president highlights new nursing program and campus partnerships

Saint Mary's College President Roger Thompson welcomed elected officials from Moraga, Lafayette and Orinda to campus and described recent and upcoming program expansions, including a new bachelor of science in nursing and additional varsity athletics.
"We're extremely proud to be in the town of Moraga and to have as many interactions as, Lafayette and Orinda," Thompson said, and noted the nursing program will begin with 250 students and aim to address a statewide shortage of nurses.
Thompson described the college as a regional asset, pointing to partnerships with local health providers and community events. Officials from the three jurisdictions thanked the college for hosting and raised ideas for further collaboration on visitor outreach and centennial celebration activities.
The remarks were largely ceremonial but underscored local leaders' interest in strengthening education-to-workforce pipelines, particularly in health care. The delegation accepted an invitation to return for campus events, including the college's summer festival.
Next steps: officials said they will continue to explore joint efforts to publicize the area to visitors and to support the college's community-facing programs.
