Knox County Commission approves administrator contract and ratifies corrections union agreement

The Knox County Commission approved and authorized the county administrator’s employment contract and voted to ratify a three-year collective bargaining agreement with the National Corrections Employee Union.
Commission members moved and seconded approval of the administrator’s contract and noted that a small number of typographical (Scribner’s) errors would be corrected before signing. The commission voted to approve the contract; staff said the chair would sign once those edits were made.
On the collective bargaining agreement, staff summarized that changes were limited and included provisions to provide professional-development opportunities and stipends for officers in charge on correctional shifts. The commission then moved to approve the collective bargaining agreement covering Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2027. The vote carried with a recorded tally of three in favor and none opposed.
Why it matters: Approving the administrator’s contract secures the commission’s retained county executive leadership, while ratifying the union contract finalizes pay, staffing and development terms for corrections employees for the next three years. Commissioners said they appreciated the work that went into negotiations and thanked unions and staff for completing the agreements.
