Planning commission recommends rezoning of 10-acre parcel for family housing on Highway 108

Charles, planning staff, said the parcel meets the minimum lot-size requirements of the Rural Residential district and the request "supports a genuine need for family housing while preserving most of a larger tract for ongoing rural uses." Charles recommended approval.
Applicant Ricky Jarrett described COVID-era housing pressures that left family members living together and said the family is seeking a small lot so a daughter and son can have separate housing near relatives. "We just need y'all's approval," Jarrett said. He also said the family is not planning to sell the property.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the staff recommendation. The planning commission closed the hearing and will forward its recommendation to the Pickens County Board of Commissioners for final action.
