The village board considered and advanced several infrastructure and public‑safety procurement items on July 15.
Public works and police staff described a cooperative purchase of a crowd‑barrier trailer system through Advanced Security Technologies with a quoted cost of $137,000; staff said they budgeted for the purchase and plan deployment with police and public works for event security. "This is a crowd barrier...the trailer in the picture has about 6 lanes worth of barriers," a staff speaker said, explaining the system is easier to move than current concrete blocks.
For water infrastructure, staff presented bids for a new 1,000,000‑gallon water tower in Marquette Business Park to improve storage and fire protection. Two bidders responded; CBI's low bid was $7,500,000 (noted as somewhat above engineering estimates). Staff projected an 18–24 month construction timeline and said property and partner coordination is complete for the selected site.
Separately, staff requested Robinson Engineering perform a signal warrant analysis at Alexander and Illinois Route 53 and noted ongoing coordination with IDOT on corridor safety improvements. The board also approved a contract recommendation to Builders Concrete Services LLC to construct an 8‑foot sidewalk and crossing from the Joliet Junior College lot to village property to improve event access; staff said the crossing will include a stop sign and coordination with FAST for completion.
Most procurement and contract authorizations were included on the meeting’s consent agenda and were approved by roll call.
