Commissioners at the Rocky Hill Economic Development Commission meeting backed adding a town-hosted, biannual networking event for local businesses to the commission genda and work plan.
The suggestion — proposed by a commissioner and supported by others — would use a neutral town location (for example the community center), light refreshments and brief remarks by town officials to help business owners meet EDC members, the mayor and town staff. A commissioner proposed holding an initial event in September or October to coincide with the business calendar.
"Let's get together twice a year," the Chair said when urging an informal, recurring meet-and-greet rather than a formal presentation. Staff agreed to add the idea to the EDC work plan and to follow up with the mayor, town manager and town planner on timing and budgeting.
Commissioners also discussed extracting the economic-development portions of the town'010s Plan of Conservation and Development (planning staff already maintain zoning maps and site inventories) so the EDC can better target visits and outreach. Staff said they would pull relevant planning tasks and return a revised work plan draft at the next meeting.
