The supervisor said the office's May financials showed about 76% of the salaries-and-benefits line used, roughly 81.8% used for contracted services and about 67.95% for supplies, reporting a favorable balance of $118,209.13 and overall 76.97% of budget used for May. The supervisor presented preliminary June figures: salaries and benefits at $49,929.63 (87.03% used), contracted services $8,736.76 (89.53% used) and supplies $6,542.21 (85.41% used), for a June total of $65,208.60 (87.29% used).
The supervisor proposed a boundary modification to correct the official placement of 10 registered voters who used an office mailing address but whose overnight residence is in the City of Kingsland. "Of these 10, 2 are inactive and only 1 has participated in an election in the last 4 years," the supervisor said, adding that the change aims to protect voter privacy by placing voters in the jurisdiction where they sleep overnight rather than by mailing address.
On the Woodbine recall, the supervisor said petitions have been issued and signatures are being collected; the office must receive signatures for vetting by July 22. The office also reported completion of a risk-limiting audit for the Georgia Public Service Commission District 3 recount with a 100% confirmation.
The supervisor reported new registrations and totals: the transcript records the phrase "3 36" new registrations (format unclear), and the office reported the roll at 45,102 registered voters, with 4,918 listed as inactive. Candidate qualifying for municipal races will begin Monday, Aug. 17 at Saint Marys and Kingsland; Kingsland's qualifying will run through Thursday, Aug. 20. The supervisor stated qualifying fees (Saint Marys $270; Kingsland mayor $343.50; council seats $270.75).
The supervisor noted personnel changes: Deborah Felix and Leona Fields have returned to retired status, leaving "Dennis and I" to staff the office while the supervisor said the county anticipates a decision about an interim position in August and will then evaluate the need for a full-time third person.
The supervisor added that staff will hold a voter-registration training on Aug. 14 at the Joseph Building (120 Lee Street in Kingsland) at 2:00 p.m. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 20.
The supervisor spoke throughout the report; board members asked clarifying questions about relocation plans for an annex and requested a written update at the next meeting.
