City planning staff told the committee that they and Mebane Police will produce a pedestrian and bicycle safety campaign informed by Vision Zero principles, and that the Public Information Officer will help develop video messaging.
"We are going to be working with Kelly, the PIO, to go ahead and get it together," Mitchell Pinsky, city planner and staff support, said, describing a plan to film short video spots at two or three intersections and to include reminders about rules and safety. Commissioners urged that drivers be explicitly included in the messaging, noting that focusing only on cyclists and pedestrians limits effectiveness.
Why it matters: a coordinated campaign combining police enforcement messages and public information can raise awareness of road rules for all users and support broader active‑transportation goals. Staff said the Vision Zero working group meets monthly and will finalize filming dates with police and the PIO.
Next steps: staff will meet with Lieutenant Underwood, Sergeant Suit and the PIO to scope the filming schedule and confirm messaging targets for both drivers and vulnerable road users.
