Gluckstadt board denies multiple ad valorem exemption requests, corrects April minutes

At a special May 28 meeting, the Gluckstadt Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to deny multiple ad valorem exemption requests and took a procedural action to correct an earlier minute involving Tower Automotive.
City Clerk Lindsay Kellum told the board that the City sent letters in March 2025 directing listed freeport companies to apply with the City by April 1, 2025, and that in 2026 only Hunter Engineering and Sanhua submitted applications by the April 1 deadline. Based on that noncompliance, Kellum recommended denying exemptions for companies that failed to apply, naming Cardinal Health, De Beukelaer Corporation (D.B.C.), Vertex Aerospace and Fastenal.
A motion by Alderwoman Jessie Campbell to deny freeport exemptions for Cardinal Health, D.B.C., Vertex Aerospace and Fastenal and to instruct the City Clerk to notify those companies passed unanimously.
Separately, the board adopted a Nunc Pro Tunc correction to the April 14, 2026 minutes at the request of the City Clerk, finding that a prior approval for Tower Automotive Operations USA I, LLC had been intended as a ten‑year industrial ad valorem expansion exemption rather than a freeport designation. Following that correction, the board considered and unanimously denied Tower Automotive’s subsequent requests for nine‑, eight‑ and seven‑year industrial expansion exemptions.
The board also unanimously denied a ten‑year industrial exemption request from Westlake Chemical Compounds, LLC and a ten‑year request from Leaderway USA, Inc. No members of the public signed up to speak, and the board adjourned after voting to close the meeting.
