The Gluckstadt Mayor and Board of Aldermen on March 10 approved several planning and zoning measures, including a conditional use permit and site plan for Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and site-plan approval for BRH Assets - Green Steel.
The board voted to grant Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church a conditional use permit to construct an approximately 9,100-square-foot multi-purpose facility on the west side of its existing campus; the facility was described as intended for church functions and to serve as a voting precinct. Alderman John Taylor moved to approve the order granting the conditional use permit; Alderwoman Miya Warfield Bates seconded the motion, and the motion carried with the voting members present recorded as in favor.
The board also approved the site plan for Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church related to that construction, again with a motion by Alderman Jayce Powell and a second by Alderman John Taylor. The board approved a site-plan application for BRH Assets - Green Steel to add roughly 13,500 square feet to the rear of an existing warehouse. Alderwoman Jessie Campbell seconded the motion to approve the BRH Assets site plan.
Separately, the board approved proposed sign standards for the Gluckstadt Office Park on Old Jackson Road, specifying a consistent design with a black background and white lettering to maintain uniform signage across the development. Alderwoman Campbell moved the sign-standards approval; Alderman Chip Williams seconded it.
No member opposed these items during the recorded votes; the board recorded the votes as carried. Venture South Construction Associates later requested withdrawal of a previously approved site-plan submission; the record notes that request and that no action was taken on it.
What happens next: approved site plans and the conditional use permit allow applicants to pursue permitting and construction consistent with city regulations; the record indicates that any additional required permits or changes would return to staff and the board as required by the city’s development procedures.
