Morehead City proclaims July 23 as Milton R. Tripp Sr. Day; community honors longtime coach

Mayor Lee Anthony Stiles read a proclamation declaring July 23, 2026, as Milton R. Tripp Senior Day in Morehead City, citing Tripp’s decades of service as a pop Warner football, Little League and Recreation League coach, long association with Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church, and work with Gideon’s International.
"Whereas Milton R. Tripp Senior was born on 07/23/1936 and has been blessed with 90 years of remarkable life, unwavering faith and selfless service," the proclamation read. The mayor and council presented the proclamation at the start of the meeting; family, friends and former players were in attendance.
Milton R. Tripp Sr. thanked the council and the community and recalled memories of coaching and neighborhood children who became part of his teams. "I tell everybody that I've been perfect. I've made mistakes," Tripp said in a moment of reflection. Council members and residents offered applause and additional tributes, and a small remembrance for community member Joe Logan was announced separately.
The mayor used the recognition to note the W.S. King renovation groundbreaking held earlier the same day and to thank parks and recreation staff for their work on community events.
