Morehead City’s council unanimously approved a voluntary contiguous annexation that adds about 9.1 acres at 3108 Bridal Street to the city.
Planning staffer Sandy told the council the application covers the northern portion of the parcel currently occupied by Willis Mobile Home Park and showed how the property adjoins the city’s corporate limits and extraterritorial jurisdiction. "The applicant has submitted a petition requesting the voluntary contiguous annexation of approximately 9 acres located at 3108 Bridal Street," Sandy said. She added that any costs to extend municipal water or sewer service would fall to the property owner and that notice requirements were met "in accordance with the North Carolina general statute requirements."
Council member Richard Abel, chairman of the planning committee, said the request "only makes sense" and moved to approve. After a second, Mayor Lee Anthony Stiles called for a voice vote and declared the motion unanimous.
The annexation ordinance text and any implementation steps (such as utility extension agreements or effective dates) were not read into the record at the meeting. The council’s motion was recorded as approved by voice vote; no roll-call tally was provided. Next steps typically include filing the annexation ordinance and city staff coordinating with the property owner on any utility connections and timing.
The council did not receive public comment in opposition; the mayor opened the hearing and no members of the public came forward.
