County engineer reports Hoff Road bridge abutment finished, describes pile-driving and safety measures

County Engineer Kathy Nicholas told the Board of Supervisors on July 14 that work on the Hoff Road bridge has reached key milestones, including completion of the south abutment and ongoing pile driving on the north side.
Nicholas walked supervisors through photos of the site and a technical explanation of pile-driving operations. She said H piles are being driven roughly 50 feet into the ground, that sheet piling and back walls are being installed, and that crews will cut piles to the correct height before finishing wing walls and the deck. She emphasized recent procedural changes to improve safety: the crew uses a lift to avoid having employees climb ladders during set-up, which she said reduces risk.
Nicholas said recent water levels tested the new abutment and that pile-driving work could finish within days. She invited board members to visit the site while work is underway.
