The Belgrade Planning Board on July 16 voted to ask a board member to draft a first version of an application checklist intended to reduce repeated incomplete submissions and speed review.
"I think a checklist would be a useful tool," a committee member said, offering to draft a first version for the board to consider at a future meeting. The board approved a motion asking him to prepare a draft and present it to the board for review.
Separately, the board received an update on proposed local rules for battery energy storage systems. Staff reported that Dan McKenzie and other advisors indicated the town cannot simply adopt another municipality's numeric capacity limits without understanding local fire‑department capacity. The board agreed a representative from the fire department (or the town's safety official) will be asked to attend the August 6 meeting to advise on response capacity and what size or safety thresholds the town could prudently adopt.
Next steps: the checklist drafter will circulate a draft for review; staff will invite the fire‑department representative to provide technical guidance on battery storage capacity and emergency response.
