Sullivan County commission approves tourism payment, courtroom equipment and schedules special budget meeting

Having opened the meeting, the chair announced votes on several items. The clerk reported the vote tallies for key items as "21 yes, 3 absent." The commission approved the consent agenda (items 3–6) and then adopted item 9, a resolution to appropriate $123,065.88 from Sullivan County occupancy-tax collections to the Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association, and item 10, a resolution to amend the circuit court clerk's budget to authorize $127,656 for replacement of the criminal-court video presentation platform.
"Having received the necessary majority of the votes cast, the number of votes are approved," the chair said after the clerk read the tallies. The commission also approved an appointment to fill a utility-board vacancy, confirming Hunter Woodall to the Intermont District board.
The vote on item 9 required a waiver of rules and the higher voting threshold; the clerk announced the requisite vote count and the commission adopted the appropriation. Item 10 was discussed briefly to clarify budget-year and funding-source language; county staff said the funds would come from the general fund, and commissioners agreed to amend the resolution accordingly before adoption.
The commission scheduled a special call meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2026, with a public hearing on the budget at 4 p.m. in the same meeting room.
