The Joliet Zoning Board of Appeals voted July 16 to recommend that city council approve a special-use permit for a resale boutique to be called Maison Mariana at 124 North Ottawa Street.
Staff said the building is a circa-1909, four-story mixed-use structure in the B2 central business district and that the proposed shop would occupy roughly 650 square feet on the ground floor. Staff recommended approval with conditions that include a 180-day lapse provision if a building permit or certificate of occupancy is not obtained, and the possibility of rehearing and revocation if the property becomes a public nuisance.
Applicant Savannah Wilhelmi, who identified herself as a lifelong Joliet resident and owner of a West Side salon, said planned hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., with extended hours during Downtown Joliet events. She described Maison Mariana as a primarily secondhand bridal boutique that might later expand to suit rentals for Will County courtgoers and emphasized her commitment to downtown revitalization.
A motion to recommend approval carried by unanimous roll call; staff will notify the applicant when the item is scheduled before city council.
