The Town of Farmington trails committee on a routine meeting reported forward movement on several trail‑signage projects, including a kiosk and bike rack at Depot Place and wayfinding signs in the Highlands.
Chair called members’ attention to a Depot Place kiosk and bike rack being installed by an Eagle Scout and said the town’s trails partners would supply standardized maps and content. A representative of the Farmington Valley Trails Council said the council “met with him today” and will provide the same map and information used in other kiosks so the new installation will match existing signage.
Committee members also confirmed a purchase order has been issued to the signage contractor for a Brickyard Road parking lot identification sign; staff reported they had received a proof and requested edits including adding the label “Brickyard Road” and changing a time reference from “dusk” to “sunset.” The trails council representative said the group had received a $1,000 donation to help cover sign costs.
On wayfinding in the Highlands, a committee member said the Board of Education reviewed and agreed on the preferred route. The committee agreed the next step is to finalize the map and then plan directional arrow signage and installation at gateway points such as Rosewood, coordinating language and QR links so signs read consistently across neighboring towns.
Committee staff said the townwide website revamp has slowed rollout of bicycle‑specific pages but that the bicycle portion remains in progress and will be folded into the larger redesign. Members asked staff to confirm shop drawings and timing with the signage vendor and to return with a final schedule.
The committee did not take formal votes on the signage items beyond acknowledging the PO and donation; members expect contractors and the trails council to complete proofs and coordinate installation timelines.
The committee will revisit signage proofs and the finalized wayfinding map at a future meeting.
