Shawnee County approves $4.06M in vouchers, several contracts and transient guest‑tax allocations

(the transcript reports $636,521 and an apparent 60-cent figure), payroll of $1,487,796.12, health‑insurance administration $926,470.85, and $49,025 allocated to social service agencies. The board approved the voucher report by voice vote (recorded as 2–0).
Contracts and approvals: the board approved contract C2026029 with EZ ICE to lease an ice machine for the juvenile detention center at $250 per month and a $500 setup fee (to be paid from the detention budget). The board also approved contract C2026030 with Professional Turf Products: a five‑year lease for four golf‑division equipment units at an approximate annual cost of $93,163.73, funded from golf earned income (user fees). County staff said replaced equipment will be sold to offset costs.
Transient guest (bed) tax: Jennifer Sauer, financial administrator, presented the 2026 allocable bed tax funds and estimated approximately $69,000 available for allocation. Two requests were on file: $7,000 for a Combat Air Museum billboard and the remainder proposed for marketing and sales by the Stormont Vail Event Center. Commissioners approved the allocation as presented.
Other business: the board approved correction orders, canceled the Feb. 23 work session and approved the consent agenda, all by recorded voice votes of 2–0.
Administrative note: Department of Corrections staff reported that the county received a National Institute of Corrections technical‑assistance grant to help develop programming for a new behavioral‑health unit; K‑State Extension announced free tax‑preparation sites staffed by trained volunteers across the county.
Votes: most routine motions were moved by Commissioner Rippon and seconded by Commissioner Cook and recorded as approved 2–0.
