The Port Edwards Village Board voted to adopt updates to Ordinance Chapter 7, the village traffic code, after members reviewed specific edits proposed by the Planning, Property and Legislative committee.
The revisions change no‑parking and limited‑time parking designations on sections of 2nd and 3rd Streets, remove the YMCA east entrance from a restricted parking description, and alter wording to reflect recent changes in state statutes affecting snowmobiles and firearms. The update also separates electric bikes from golf carts in the code: electric-bikes will be treated like regular bicycles and certain golf-cart subsections remain specific to carts.
PLP committee representative presented page‑by‑page changes, noting corrections where the state traffic code citation ranges were wrong and where state statute sections had been removed. Police Chief and staff said they had reviewed the changes earlier in committee and reported no outstanding concerns. "This is being incorporated from that discussion," the presenting trustee said on the floor.
Motion to approve was made by Trustee Pfluger and seconded by Trustee O'Connor; the board approved the updates by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The board scheduled no additional budget action for the ordinance change itself; enforcement and signage changes will be handled by staff under existing budgets.
The board is expected to implement the revised language in the municipal code and update signage and published code references as needed.
