District administration presented unaudited financial statements and student-assessment highlights at the organizational meeting.
The superintendent said the district’s unaudited results show a deficit of about $620,000 that does not yet reflect a $1.2 million appropriation from fund balance. He told the board a recent $128,000 BOCES aid payment will reduce the deficit and that, after final entries, the shortfall is likely to decline further. The superintendent said the district holds about $3.4 million in reserves in addition to unassigned fund balance.
Planned spending from reserves was also described: staff said the capital reserve will cover the purchase of three buses this month (cited around $567,000) and the repair reserve will be drawn down by about $700,000; the superintendent said the board should consider whether to replenish those reserves from unassigned fund balance.
On academics, the superintendent summarized AP and regents outcomes: 47 students took AP exams across seven courses, with five classes achieving a 100% qualifying rate for college credit and generally strong regents pass rates (for example, biology pass rate reported at about 85%, above the statewide average). He said the district uses platforms such as Tableau and NWEA to analyze item-level data and guide instructional adjustments.
Board members asked clarifying questions about revenue sources and whether certain costs (for field/rental use) were adequate relative to wear and tear. Staff said contracts require users to return facilities to pre-event condition, and that fee-schedule adjustments will be considered when contracts renew.
