Board approves use of repair reserve for summer facility projects including cameras, gate and plumbing repairs

The Lake Placid Central School District board approved use of repair and capital reserves for a package of summer facility projects, including plumbing repairs, camera upgrades, gate work and the planned purchase of three buses.

The superintendent reviewed the repair-reserve list and said the reserve was established two years ago with $1 million. He described individual items the facilities team identified as priorities for summer work, including an estimated plumbing/leak repair of about $25,000 and a targeted asbestos test for the affected bathroom (the test cost cited in the meeting was $157 and returned negative). He said some tasks may be completed in-house where practical and that the district will seek three quotes where required.

On security infrastructure, staff said an earlier gate quote was near $120,000 but that a more recent figure was higher; the district is pursuing state-contract pricing and vendor quotes. Staff also proposed replacing and upgrading cameras to improve license-plate capture and to add lighting around the perimeter. "We might even be able to do a lot of it in house," the superintendent said when discussing labor options.

The board moved and approved the use of the repair fund for the listed projects; the voice vote was recorded as 7 yes.

The superintendent noted that where state contract pricing applies the district will follow that procurement route, and where three competitive quotes are required staff will obtain them before committing funds. The board did not receive any substantive public objections during the hearing and closed the item to proceed with organizational business.
