Southington council unanimously appoints Robert Britton to Board of Finance; swears him in

Robert (Rob) Britton was appointed and sworn in to a two‑year seat on the Southington Board of Finance after a unanimous vote by the Town Council on Monday evening.

Vice chair Jennifer Clark nominated Britton, describing him as "a seasoned financial services executive with more than 25 years" of municipal banking experience. Councilor Tony Morrison seconded the nomination; Clark revised the motion on the floor to make the appointment contingent on Britton providing a written resignation from the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the council adopted that contingency before voting.

"I'll change my motion to be contingent on a letter of resignation from Planning and Zoning," Clark said during the discussion. After the roll call vote the chair invited Britton to the dais to be sworn; the clerk administered the oath and completed required disclosure paperwork.

The chair said the Planning and Zoning Commission will be asked to backfill Britton's seat there after the appointment. The council then moved to an executive session later in the meeting; the chair identified the topic for that session as pending litigation under "Connecticut General Statutes 1‑206(b)."

The appointment adds a finance professional to the board while preserving the procedural requirement that he step down from a concurrent Planning and Zoning role before assuming his finance duties.

The council did not take any additional public votes on related appointments at the meeting; next steps noted by the chair include transmitting Britton's resignation letter to the clerk and the Planning and Zoning Commission processing a backfill.
