Selectmen approve reclassification to create deputy library director/head of children’s services

The Board of Selectmen on July 13 approved revising the job description for the head of children’s services at the Simsbury Public Library to add the title and responsibilities of deputy library director.
Supporters spoke during public audience: Margaret Halderman, representing the Aging & Disability Commission, described the library’s partnerships and the advantages of formalizing responsibilities already performed by the incumbent; Katie Crawford, a library staff member, and Nicole Morhardt, a resident and community partner, said the change strengthens succession planning and continuity during unexpected absences.
Holly McGrath, chair of the library board of trustees, thanked the board for moving to strengthen leadership capacity and confirmed the change does not add a new headcount; the position is funded in the fiscal‑year budget approved at referendum. After brief board discussion, a motion to approve the revised job description carried on a voice vote.
