Woolwich Township officials on Aug. 19 reviewed monthly departmental reports covering public safety, infrastructure grants and municipal services.
Police Chief Morgan told the Committee that new recruits are in their third week at the academy, the Youth Police Academy Camp completed successfully, and motor vehicle inspection events occurred in mid-August. He asked the Committee to help remind residents to lock vehicles and remove valuables after a noted rise in car break-ins.
Chief Valichka of the Woolwich Fire Company reported that a ladder truck again required service for a computer problem and that the fire house would be updated to bring the building up to code. Fred Lock of the Swedesboro Fire Bureau described efforts to address false alarms at businesses and said his office is reviewing its fee ordinance with potential amendments.
Township Engineer Samantha Boonstra provided project updates, saying a truck route ordinance will be introduced in September, and noted progress on Garwin Road and the Center Square Walking Trail grant work; she said the township will contact NJDEP regarding Oliphants Mill Road dam status and confirmed 196 Colony Place had been approved. Liaison reports included 522 pickleball participants and a sold-out corn hole tournament; a fall kickoff event is scheduled Sept. 6.
The reports were received for the record; no formal action beyond routine approvals was taken on these items during the meeting.
