Vernon County coroner reports 28 deaths in May; department reviews May spending and budget status

Betty Nigh, Vernon County Coroner, told the Board of Health that the county recorded 28 deaths in May, including 17 cremations and 11 burials; there were no entombments and 100% were coroner cases. Nigh reported monthly coroner income of $2,430.00 and expenses of $1,952.85.
The board also reviewed the health department’s May financials. Department staff reported May voucher expenditures of $12,978.26 and total May public-health expenses of $34,499.52, which the department said represents 36% of the fiscal year budget expended to date.
The financial reports were presented as part of the regular business report; the board approved the previous month’s minutes by motion earlier in the meeting and took no separate vote on the monthly financial statements. The board scheduled follow-up agenda topics, including an item listed for the next meeting titled “Agent Fee Adjustment.”
