The Committee on Energy, Environment and Sustainability voted to report a resolution urging the City Administration to carry out a citywide energy vulnerability assessment and to report findings and recommendations to the Council.
Councilmember Santos told the committee that the resolution responds to rising energy costs that "are gonna be impacting the city's bottom line" and said operating the bus and handivan "is gonna go up by millions of dollars because gas prices are going up." Santos framed the assessment as a tool to find consolidation and cost‑saving opportunities across city fleet and department fuel operations.
Kealoha Fox of the Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency (CCSR) thanked the committee for its interest and said the office publishes an annual sustainability report (its eighth edition) that monitors sustainability metrics but has not yet linked those metrics to cost savings. Fox offered to present the annual sustainability report at the committee's August meeting and to work with Director Kawano on follow-up investigations.
With no further questions or public testimony recorded, Chair Wyer recommended the resolution be reported out for adoption by the full Council; the committee recorded no objections.
