Melanie Islam reappointed to Honolulu City Climate Change Commission

Islam said she represents the built-environment seat and works "as a practicing architect and sustainability director at Mason," describing her focus as "how can we make [the built environment] a more resilient and equitable place" through closer coordination with city implementation staff. Her remarks came after Chair Wyer introduced a hand-carried CD1 that corrected the nominee's name and added technical, non-substantive edits to the resolution.
The chair moved the CD1 amendment and, with no objections recorded, recommended the resolution be reported out for adoption by the full Council. The resolution as introduced notes the nominee's term would expire on 06/30/2031.
The committee did not receive remote or in-person public testimony on the appointment during the committee hearing. The full Council is now scheduled to consider the nomination as part of its agenda.
