USD 237 board approves 2025–26 calendar, driver’s-education MOU and renews two principals’ contracts

The USD 237 (Smith Center) Board of Education on Feb. 10, 2025, voted unanimously to approve a set of routine and policy items, including the district’s 2025–26 academic calendar, a Memorandum of Understanding to run summer driver’s education, and contract renewals for two school principals.
Board President Theron Haresnape called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and, after routine roll call, the board approved the meeting agenda. A package of consensus items passed 7–0 and included the January 13, 2025 meeting minutes; acceptance of donations; formation of the Madonna Jamison Scholarship Committee; approval of two out‑of‑district students (Blayne Johnson and Brenner Montgomery); acceptance of a retirement letter from Thelma Koops; acceptance of resignation letters from Amy Terrill and Hayley Moll; and awarding an elementary custodial contract to John Ord.
Under a separate motion, the board approved the 2025–26 academic calendar as presented. Superintendent Dustin McEwen described a driver’s-education plan for the summer: Greenbush will provide the classroom portion, while Jason Wilson and Anthony Blair will provide the behind‑the‑wheel instruction and requested use of two district‑equipped vehicles so they could drive concurrently. McEwen said 24 students are eligible for the course. The board approved the Memorandum of Understanding with Greenbush and the named driving instructors by a 7–0 vote.
Following closed executive sessions to discuss personnel matters, the board approved renewal of the principal contracts for Michelle Stamm and Greg Koelsch for the 2026–2027 school year; the motion passed 7–0.
