The Board of Education of U.S.D. 438 took a series of routine personnel and operations actions during its Sept. 9 meeting.
The board accepted four resignations on a motion by Dustin Eubank, seconded by Jerry DeWeese: Lacey Robinson (Senior Class Sponsor); Emilie Kenworthy (assistant Robotics/Lego League sponsor); Michelle Bair (high school Scholars’ Bowl sponsor); and John Wyer (maintenance). The motion carried.
The board approved supplemental contracts for the 2024–25 school year on a motion by Jerry DeWeese, seconded by David McComb. Approved assignments included Darci Poland as Innovation Fair Coordinator and Jill Nech for Publications/Yearbook.
Under old business the board received facility updates: parking-lot lighting is on schedule for mid-October completion, paving and striping are complete, and Visiplex technicians will add equipment and service the district notification system. The board also reviewed a roof inspection summary prepared by Mahaney Roofing and considered the district’s Needs Assessment.
Administrators reported on building activities. HS Principal Steven Novotny provided school-level updates, and ES Principal Diane House and teacher Darci Poland presented on the district’s data-collection efforts.
The board entered two executive sessions: one to discuss a student matter (motion by Jerry DeWeese, seconded by David McComb; the board returned to open session at 8:11 p.m.) and a second to discuss nonelected personnel and employer-employee negotiations (motion by Jerry DeWeese, seconded by David McComb; the board returned at 8:17 p.m.). The minutes state administrators and the business manager were invited into each executive session to attend.
The meeting concluded when a motion by Mark Graber, seconded by Nicole Curtis, adjourned the board at 8:20 p.m.
