Smith Center City Council adopts water conservation plan, approves contracts and administrative resolutions

Clerk Joshua Niles presented the updated Municipal Water Conservation Plan; Council member Tracy Kingsbury moved to adopt the plan and Council member Don Wick seconded. Mayor Bryce Wiehl recommended that council department assignments remain the same for the coming year (Cole: Fire and Police; Kingsbury: Water and Sewer; Wick: Pool and Recreation; Mansholt: Transit, Parks and Golf; Wallgren: Airport and Streets). Council member Chris Cole moved to retain the prior year’s assignments; Tracy Kingsbury seconded and the motion carried.
Under departmental and operational business, the council authorized several administrative actions. On a motion by Council member Chris Cole, seconded by Don Wick, the council voted to continue the Growing Leaders contract through March 2026 and to adopt Option 2 of the contract at $1,000 per month.
Clerk Joshua Niles reported an insurance claim related to a police vehicle accident; the insurer accepted full responsibility and will pay for repairs. Council member Chris Cole moved to proceed with repairs to the 2021 Dodge Charger; Don Wick seconded and the motion carried.
