Skyline Schools board approves 2024-25 budget, sets LOB at 32% and votes to exceed revenue neutral rate

The Board of Education of U.S.D. 438 approved the district’s 2024–25 budget and took related tax decisions during its Sept. 9 meeting.
A motion by Board member David McComb, seconded by Board member Mark Graber, approved the 2024–25 budget “as presented.” The board recorded that it used the district Needs Assessment and the 2024 Kansas state assessment results in its budgeting process; the motion carried. The public Budget Hearing convened at 7:15 p.m. and was adjourned at 7:17 p.m. before the regular session began.
On related motions, the board set the Local Option Budget (LOB) percentage at 32% for 2024–25 on a motion by Jerry DeWeese, seconded by David McComb; that motion carried. The board then adopted a resolution to exceed the state Revenue Neutral Rate for the 2024–25 school year; a roll-call vote recorded seven yes votes: Nicole Curtis, Jerry DeWeese, Dustin Eubank, Mark Graber, David McComb, Rex Robinson and Allen Smith.
The decisions will determine the district’s levy-setting authority for the coming year and were taken after the board reviewed district needs and state assessment data. The board did not record any public objections in the minutes for the Budget Hearing.
The board returned to other agenda items after the budget and tax decisions and adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.
