During the public-comment portion of the meeting, Stefanie Grady asked to speak about the Maverick Mine up Daniel Canyon. Grady said she works in the mining industry and urged commissioners and residents to read a recent KPCW interview and to attend a Wasatch County public meeting on July 1. She said Wasatch County is resisting the mine and expressed concern about how mining operations could affect Daniel. Grady also related that mine owners contend they have the legal right to open mines where they hold mineral rights; that claim was presented as the speaker’s report of the mine-owner position and was not adjudicated at this meeting.
No town action was taken on the Maverick Mine during this meeting; Grady’s remarks were recorded as public comment and she encouraged broader community engagement at the county-level meeting.
