The Granbury Planning & Zoning Commission on July 13 recommended that City Council approve a zoning change for the property at 4303 E US Highway 377 from Light Commercial to Heavy Commercial and recommended approval of a Specific Use Permit (SUP) to allow auto sales (used vehicles) while preserving taxidermy in the rear of the building.
Planning staff described the site as 1.5 acres adjacent to Kia and said an SUP from 2008 covers taxidermy at the rear of the property. Staff recommended a two‑year time frame for the auto‑sales SUP, saying the arrangement would allow the use to be reviewed and renewed or reverted in a couple of years. Staff noted five mailed notices and no letters for or against.
Applicant Michael Janish, who said he works for Progressive Powersports and Kia across the street, told commissioners the dealership needs additional space for used inventory and that a two‑year renewal would be "very doable for us." Commission members asked no further questions, and Commissioner Hayes moved to recommend approval of the zoning change and the SUP; Commissioner Hallman seconded and the motions carried.
The item will be forwarded to City Council for final action. Staff noted parking calculations and site plan elements are being met and will be subject to final review if Council approves the recommendation.
