USD 438 hears safety, accreditation and infrastructure updates; board reviews promotional video draft

At its Nov. 11 meeting the Board of Education of U.S.D. 438 received multiple operational updates from district administrators and principals, including reports on accreditation planning, student attendance, safety drills, capital outlay planning, recruitment and technology upgrades.

Principals Diane House and Steven Novotny reported to the board on the district accreditation plan, KAP review and student attendance (minutes provide these topics but do not include detailed figures). Business Manager Dave Schmidt presented an overview of completed crisis drills and outlined plans for future drills.

Under old business the minutes note the Visiplex team is on site working on the intercom system. Superintendent Becca Flowers described the Capital Outlay Plan for the remainder of the 2024‑25 year and summarized teacher recruitment efforts through Educate Kansas.

In new business the board reviewed an initial promotional flyer and discussed producing a promotional video to showcase the district; the minutes state the board will gather more information before deciding whether to proceed. Flowers also updated the board on internet and infrastructure upgrades available through the federal E‑Rate program.

These informational items were presented to the board without recorded motions. The minutes list scheduled district events and outreach: the Schools for Fair Funding meeting on Dec. 13, 2024, and a PCC luncheon on Dec. 16, 2024. No formal votes or timelines for the promotional video or E‑Rate actions are recorded in the minutes.

The board then proceeded to personnel items and adjourned at 9:29 p.m.
