Farmington council ratifies nurses’ contract, accepts donation and awards several contracts in unanimous votes

The Farmington Town Council unanimously approved a series of administrative and procurement items on July 14 after discussion from staff and council members.
Contract ratification: The council ratified a three-year tentative agreement between the district and Farmington school nurses. Beth, a board of education staff member, said the contract includes step adjustments designed to improve recruitment and retention, including a new top step and freezing certain step progressions in year one to manage costs. Council members asked for background on step adjustments, parity with neighboring districts and the new grievance procedures the nurses had requested; Beth said the grievance language was newly negotiated and that staff would provide further details as requested. The motion to ratify passed unanimously.
Donations and contracts: Council accepted a $40,000 donation routed through Tunxis Hose Volunteer Fire Department (a Tinti Foundation grant) to purchase a specialty utility vehicle (a gator) outfitted for emergency response and stretcher capability. The council also awarded a $390,000 contract to Gold Seal Roofing LLC for partial police department roof replacement and approved bid awards to Morton Salt Inc. for treated salt at $102.51/ton and untreated salt at $88.51/ton for the 2026–27 winter season; staff said the town expects to use about 2,000 tons of treated salt and 750 tons of untreated salt and explained differences between treated (magnesium chloride, sodium chloride, molasses) and untreated salt and usage temperatures.
Administrative items: The council scheduled a special meeting for July 28 to approve a POCD consultant (and to consider adding the townwide strategic-plan survey into that contract) and to receive a technology committee report; members also approved routine minute readings and property tax refunds. Council also moved into executive session to discuss personnel related to the town clerk’s annual review and returned to open session before adjournment.
