Teacher representatives and Board members at USD 509 agreed to pursue a yearbook sponsorship project and to clarify responsibilities for yearbook work.
Kalli Nicholson and Missy Russell, teacher representatives, raised the yearbook sponsorship as a supplemental-scale item and discussed distinctions between duties performed inside and outside school hours. Both sides agreed to make the sponsorship and responsibility clarification a project moving forward, and Dr. Farley will take the lead on follow-up.
Missy Russell said she will record time spent on the yearbook both inside and outside of class so the district can quantify total staff effort. Dr. Farley said that the recorded time will be compared with similar-sized districts to provide context for any recommended changes to workload expectations or compensation.
The parties did not adopt a formal policy at the meeting; next steps are limited to data-gathering and internal comparison. The information Dr. Farley compiles will be returned to teacher representatives for further discussion.
