Solomon council adopts annual code updates, approves KS Gas franchise and a certification-based pay increase

At its Sept. 8 meeting the Solomon City Council approved a series of administrative and personnel actions, including annual code updates, a franchise agreement and a wage increase tied to certification.
Councilmember Kelley VanDeCreek moved to adopt Ordinance 775 (STO update) and the motion passed 5-0. Council then approved Ordinance 776 (UPOC update) by a separate 5-0 vote. Both ordinances were described as annual updates from the Kansas League of Municipalities; the city will purchase an online and hard copy of the updated codes for public access.
Councilmember Jennifer Cross moved to approve Ordinance 777, a franchise agreement with KS Gas; Brian Duryea seconded and the motion carried 5-0. In personnel business, the council approved a wage increase for Dalton Bledsoe to reflect his recent water certification (motion by Jennifer Cross, seconded by Colten Kohman, 5-0). The council also announced an open house to recognize Don Boyer's 25 years of service.
The meeting closed with calendar reminders for a council workshop on Sept. 29 and the next regular meeting on Oct. 6. The council adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
