Solomon council approves grants, equipment purchases and schedules water-project town hall

The Solomon City Council on Oct. 6 voted unanimously to accept a Community Foundation grant and several related contracts, approve technology and safety-equipment purchases, and schedule an informational town hall on a proposed water infrastructure project.
The council approved acceptance of a $46,868.58 Community Foundation grant that will fund building renovations and related improvements. Councilmember Colten Kohman moved to approve the grant and Jennifer Cross seconded; the motion passed, 3-0. Linked to that grant, the council approved a $46,868 contract with Wizard of Odz and Ends for bathroom renovations and separately approved a $1,538.02 quote to replace a back door.
Council also approved routine municipal expenses and equipment updates. The council authorized up to $4,000 for replacement office computers and peripherals to consolidate four devices into two laptops with docking stations and dual monitors. The council approved purchase of five Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) packs for the Solomon Fire Department; funding for the gear is tied in part to payments from Twin Valley for fire services during their installation. The fire department also accepted a $1,816 Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) grant requiring a 50/50 local match; the council approved accepting the grant.
Other approved items included Varneys 2025 engagement letter and a special-event permit for the Faith & Blue event scheduled Oct. 11. The council recorded each motion as passing by a 3-0 vote.
