Chief Randy Paden updated the Solomon City Council on a recent structure fire that remains under investigation. He said five fire marshals reviewed the incident and that the cause is currently undetermined.
Paden said the department held a Zoom meeting with mental‑health professionals for first responders and reached out to the 1033 Foundation to request additional first‑responder support. He said the department will meet with the foundation for a debriefing on Wednesday.
The fire department submitted a State Farm grant application for $10,000 to purchase new truck equipment and Paden said he is preparing an additional application this week. He also reported the volunteer firefighter program is awaiting review by the city attorney before further action.
Paden reported fire‑department activity for June: 23 calls total, including 20 calls inside the city (17 of them at the same address) and three calls in the county (one medical call, one vehicle accident and one electrical fire). Council discussion included insurance and cleanup steps for fire‑damaged property, but no formal remediation action was taken at the meeting.
