St. Francis USD 297 board approves consent calendar, accepts resignations and new hires

The St. Francis Unified School District 297 Board approved the consent calendar and several personnel and administrative actions at its Feb. 13 regular meeting.
The board voted to approve the consent calendar, which included the Jan. 16 meeting minutes; direct deposit slips #0117001–0117082 and checks #18016–18110 totaling $580,243.66; the cash summary and activity fund reports as of Jan. 31, 2025; and two gift offers: $500 to start a mini foundation at St. Francis Community High School and $300 toward a high-school wrestling mat, both from the Cheyenne County Kansas Community Foundation. The motion to approve the consent calendar was made by Chris Hingst and seconded by J.W. Milliken.
Superintendent Penka reported two personnel resignations: Kattie Aldaco, who submitted her resignation as second-grade teacher effective at the end of the 2024–25 school year, and Kevin Trembly, who resigned as high-school custodian effective Feb. 3, 2025 after 25 years with USD 297. The board moved to accept the resignations (motion by Chris Hingst; seconded by J.W. Milliken).
The board also approved recommended hires: Gracie Parsons as assistant junior-high volleyball coach for the 2025–26 season, and Michael McGinnis to be placed on the list of substitute route and activity bus drivers. Chris Hingst moved to approve the hires; J.W. Milliken seconded and the motion carried.
In other administrative business, Dustin Andrist moved to add Tania Quintero as a signatory on the district's FNB Bank and The Bank checking accounts; the motion was seconded by Chris Hingst and carried.
The meeting adjourned at 10:25 a.m. The board set its next regular meeting for March 13, 2025, at 7:00 a.m.
