St. George's council backs trail signage and staff files grant for Sunset Trail expansion

Council on Sept. 12 approved support for a Community Attraction Sign Project to place signage on the Trans-Canada Highway at the Steel Mountain Road entrance to draw visitors to Sunset Trail and the town community garden.
Joe Blanchard moved and Andy Tobin seconded Motion #82/24, which the minutes record as passed unanimously. The signs are intended to promote tourism and encourage drivers to visit the Sunset Trail and community garden.
Town Manager Danny Conway told council he had gathered required materials and four letters of support and planned to submit an Active NL grant application on Sept. 13 to fund expansion of the Sunset Trail. The grant application is listed as ongoing while the town awaits a response.
Council also received a presentation from TRACT Consulting related to the town’s 10-year planning work; the TRACT presentation outlined a proposed impact assessment and invited questions from council.
