St. George council hears report on six water leaks, Atlas Salt drilling and multiple upcoming infrastructure projects

Manager Danny Conway briefed the Town of St. George council on several infrastructure and operations items at the Nov. 14, 2024 meeting.
He reported that town crews found and repaired six water leaks; two of those repairs are temporary and the manager said the town is still losing water from an unresolved source. Conway also told council that Atlas Salt has begun the next phase of exploration drilling and associated road construction in the area.
On project timelines: the Well Airlifting Project has a potential Monday start date if work in Stephenville does not create a conflict; the Water Lateral Project has been approved but is too late to start this season. Council authorized calls for consultants on the School Road and Valve Replacement projects. Staff said a snow-clearing schedule will be put in place once the water issue is resolved.
Council was also briefed that an auditor visited to gather documentation and staff expect to receive the auditor's report by the end of next week or, at the latest, the end of November. A Tract Consulting representative spent two days reviewing town assets and will deliver a findings report to council.
Why it matters: unresolved leaks and timing constraints on water projects affect service reliability and winter operations; Atlas Salt's drilling and road work are active field projects that could have operational and planning implications for the town.
