During the Jan. 9 round‑table, Councillor Jean Legge raised concerns about roaming dogs in town and asked council for options to address the problem.
Manager Danny Conway said he would contact the SPCA to inquire about programs similar to those used for cats, and council discussed the potential cost of directly hiring animal control. Council received an estimate that hiring a dog catcher for 20 hours per week would cost roughly $70,000 a year.
No formal motion to fund or hire an animal‑control officer was made at the meeting; council directed the manager to make inquiries and report back. The issue will return to a future council meeting if staff find programs or provide costed options.
