St. George council approves payment to Frac Flow, holds other cheques pending funding release

The Town of St. George council on Jan. 9 approved a $39,504.35 payment to Frac Flow and agreed to hold most other cheques until the town’s outstanding external funding is released.
By Motion #119/25, moved by Councillor Joe Blanchard and seconded by Councillor Rhonda Sheppard, council authorized the Frac Flow payment to come from the town’s Gas Tax account. The motion passed with six votes in favor and none opposed.
Earlier under Motion #118/25, council approved payables totaling $36,946.54 but directed that the cheques be printed and held until funding outlined in the town’s audit is released. Manager Danny Conway told council the audit has been submitted and that the town is awaiting the release of several funding items listed in the audit: a $60,000 CIP allocation, an $11,000 HST refund and $86,663 in MOG funding. Councillor William Vincent also noted an On Grade invoice for road and ramp work was not presented and therefore was not approved.
Council’s action separates routine payables from the Frac Flow payment because Frac Flow was authorized to be paid from the Gas Tax account, a dedicated funding source distinct from the held cheques. The cheques held pending funding release will be printed but not issued until the town receives the audit-related funds.
The council did not record any dissent on the Frac Flow payment; several other payables remain on hold pending the external funding the manager described as forthcoming. Council scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 13, 2025.
