External audit flags inactive accounts and unsecured funds; board accepts $2,000 ATMOS donation

An auditor from Dirks, Anthony, Duncan LLC presented the district’s audit findings to the Stanton County USD 452 Board of Education on Jan. 15, noting several accounts with little or no activity that the auditor recommended the district review and, where appropriate, close.
The auditor also reported there were unsecured funds at Dream First Bank and advised Superintendent Trenton Horn to discuss the matter with the bank to secure those funds going forward. The minutes record the auditor (identified as Matthew) explaining the key points while board members viewed the presentation on their iPads.
Separately, the board voted 6-0 to accept a $2,000 donation from ATMOS Energy to support winter coats and student lunch-account balances; the motion to accept the donation was made by Bret Kendrick and seconded by Paige German.
The board also approved its consent agenda (minutes and claims) by a 6-0 vote. The audit presentation included a recommendation to consider transferring or closing inactive accounts such as Junior Class or Stucco accounts; the minutes do not record specific follow-up deadlines.
