Proposal to change St. George town office hours to 9 a.m.–5 p.m. fails

A proposal to change the Town of St. George’s office hours to 9 a.m.–5 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break was defeated by the council on Apr. 10, losing 1–6 under Motion #142/25.
Councillor William Vincent proposed the change to make the office more accessible to residents who commute to Stephenville. After discussion of advantages and disadvantages, the motion (moved by Vincent and seconded by Joe Blanchard) failed with one in favor and six opposed.
The minutes record that Mayor Conrad White checked on delinquent accounts and will consult Municipal Assessment about removing properties from the assessment roll; if removal is not possible the town may issue bills via TownSuite and council could later consider motions to adjust property tax assessments. The council set its next meeting for May 8, 2025.
